Spending on data centres will see the largest growth with an increase of almost 17% expected in 2025, followed closely by software (16.1%).<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWhile budgets for CIOs are increasing, a significant portion will merely offset price increases within their recurrent spending,\u201d said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gartner.com\/en\/experts\/john-lovelock\">John-David Lovelock<\/a>, Distinguished VP Analyst at Gartner. \u201cThis means that, in 2025, nominal spending versus real IT spending will be skewed, with price hikes absorbing some or all of budget growth. All major categories are reflecting higher-than-expected prices, prompting CIOs to defer and scale back their true budget expectations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>GenAI will Influence IT Spending, but IT Spending Won\u2019t Be on GenAI Itself<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Segments including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gartner.com\/en\/newsroom\/press-releases\/2024-11-12-gartner-predicts-power-shortages-will-restrict-40-percent-of-ai-data-centers-by-20270\">data center<\/a> systems, devices and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gartner.com\/en\/software-engineering\/research\/gartner-score-software-engineering?utm_medium=press-release&amp;utm_campaign=RM_GB_2024_ITSWEL_NPP_PR1_SWENGPRESSRELEASE&amp;utm_term=diagnostic\">software<\/a> will see double-digit growth in 2025, largely due to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gartner.com\/en\/industries\/high-tech\/trends\/top-genai-opportunities-for-tech-products?utm_source=press-release&amp;utm_medium=promotion&amp;utm_campaign=RM_GB_2024_HTGBLPT_NPP_PR1_GENAIFORPRODUCT&amp;utm_term=ebook\">generative AI<\/a> (GenAI) hardware upgrades (see Table 1). However, these upgraded segments will not differentiate themselves in terms of functionality yet, even with new hardware.<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Table 1. While both consumers and enterprises will purchase AI-enabled PC, tablets and mobile phones, those purchases will not be overly influenced by the GenAI functionality.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spending on AI-optimized servers easily doubles spending on traditional servers in 2025, reaching $202 billion dollars.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIT services companies and hyperscalers account for over 70% of spending in 2025,\u201d said Lovelock. \u201cBy 2028, hyperscalers will operate $1 trillion dollars\u2019 worth of AI optimized servers, but not within their traditional business model or IaaS Market. Hyperscalers are pivoting to be part of the oligopoly AI model market.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gartner\u2019s IT spending forecast methodology relies heavily on rigorous analysis of the sales by over a thousand vendors across the entire range of IT products and services.
